Yeah I have no idea why any site showcases art at all. It's a serious blow to people's confidence.

Yeah it's a shame, been this way for a while though.

Newgrounds prepares you for the way the world really is.

Ehh, not the way I see it. Newgrounds gives spineless douche nozzles the luxury of a sense of anonymity and ability to build a reputation for themselves that remains unaffected by the sort of person they truly are. In "the real world", it's either put up or shut up. There isn't a damn person out there who would take shit from a childish, derisive, self-righteous Newgrounder when pulled away from the safety of their computers. It's quite sad.

I dunno. Generally I agree, but you should've heard my first attempt at putting some music out here for the community to listen to. It was horrific. So from the experience of ridicule, I came away with "well, ok, everyone thought it was bad... so they were right about some things but it's probably just execution." So after more practice and work, things get decent.

Granted, I'm not necessarily the sensitive flower that others may be, as I've thickened my skin from years of BBSing, but still. I think it's an imperfect way to avoid the coddling that those close to you might give you.

I think you're absolutely right. In a perfect world, users would take advantage of their semi-anonymity and post their works, while the rest of us, in turn, would use our semi-anonymity and provide honest, constructive criticism without feeling inhibited by any hurt feelings or what have you. Unfortunately, you know how the saying goes. Give a pair of scissors to a barber with parkinson's and eyes WILL be gouged. Granted, an inappropriate saying, but doesn't that just prove my point? A large portion of users will say anything, and do, simply because they can. No thought. No good intentions. Just verbal diarrhea for the sake of shock value. Now, I don't mean to come off as a pessimist. I do believe that some users do well and truly provide constructive criticism, myself included.

There's just...like...A LOOOOT of bullshit to sift through nowadays.
